Working with Google Consent Mode / Additional Consent / TCF ...

If you are using Google services, you will encounter multiple technologies that Google requires. Here is an overview:

Target: Advertisers, eCommerce

Affected services:

Google Ads (Adwords), Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager
Description: Allows a consent banner to send signals to Google Tags so that they can do tracking.
When: Required from March 2024

Google Additional Consent v2

Target: Publishers
Affected services: Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Google AdMob
Description: Sending consent signals via IAB TCF spec for vendors that are not part of the IAB TCF
When: Required from January 2024

Google Requirement for IAB TCF 2.2 / Consent Management Requirements

Target: Publishers
Affected services: Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Google AdMob
Description: Websites & apps that deliver advertising via google services must use a Google certified CMP with IAB TCF v2.2 support to be able to deliver ads.
When: Required form January 2024

Google Limited Ads

Target: Publishers
Affected services: Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager, Google AdMob
Description: Allow Google advertising services to serve non-personalized ads if no consent (but legitimate interest) is given
When: Optional
